Makeup stylists give cheap and chic tips

The B words, beauty and bargains, seldom end up on the same page in anyone's book. But this month's Allure magazine pairs the two with makeup stylists' tips on cheap chic looks.
A product that is nonessential to your looks should be inexpensive, says makeup artist Dick Page. Save on lipsticks, several advise. Drugstore brands such as L'Oreal and Revlon have pretty colors, and the steal, Wet 'n' Wild at 99 cents, has bullet-proof staying power, Page adds.
On skin care, opt for brands that make product research a priority, editors write. And minimize the number of products. Buy one basic moisturizer with a sunscreen and use it around the clock and -- if safe -- around the eyes, says New York physician and skin specialist Patricia Wexler.
Samples are good, too. Cosmetics counters with year-round giveaways include Chanel with Precision skin care products, Elizabeth Arden with a vial of customized Flawless Finish foundation, and Prescriptives with minitubes of face serums and foundations. Just approach with a specific request and listen quietly to the sales spiel.
