YOUNGSTOWN -- The Mahoning Valley American Cancer Society earned $1,372,000 in its annual Relay For Life events during May and June.
The Relay for Life, held in Mahoning, Trumbull, and Columbiana counties, is the cancer society's signature fund-raising event. It spotlights cancer survivors, raises awareness, and raises funds for the American Cancer Society's research and quality of life programs.
Bob Antenucci, co-chairman of the Warren event, was elated about the results.
"We had so many people who diligently worked together to raise money for our fight against cancer," Antenucci said.

The event was planned and organized solely by volunteers -- many who have worked since summer 2001 to schedule this year's activities.
Each 24-hour relay featured entertainment, games, contests and raffles.
The continuous walking and running didn't bother relay participants.
"Relay For Life made me realize how fortunate I am to have good health and also gave me the inspiration and passion to serve others in the community," said Jill Duff of Poland, a walker at the Boardman relay.
The ACS uses the proceeds for research and for more than 25 free programs in the tri-county area.
Two popular programs are Camp Friendship, a free camp for children and young adults who have cancer or are in remission; and Reach to Recovery, a rehabilitation program for women with breast cancer.
College-bound students who have cancer also can receive scholarships from the organization.
"One of our daily goals is to make life easier for a cancer patient," said Al Stabilito, the local communications and advocacy director. "We encourage cancer patients and loved ones to call us if they need help or support."
