Salem namesSteffey as A.D.
SALEM -- Greg Steffey of Massillon will be taking over as Salem schools athletic director next month. Steffey, 39, is replacing Ray Steffen, who is retiring.
Steffey, who was hired last week by the school board, will earn $60,363 annually for the full-time post.
He previously served as assistant athletic director and a history teacher at the Massillon Perry High.
Steffey is a Youngstown State University graduate. He obtained a master's degree in education from Ashland College.

BELOIT -- The West Branch board of education hired the following coaches for the 2002-2003 school year: baseball, Lynn Grove; boys basketball, Lou Sellaroli; girls basketball, Chuck Campbell; cross country and boys' track, Kevin Buckley; football, Jim Laut; softball, Jennifer "Sis" Woods; girls soccer, Joe DeMay; boys soccer, Matt Thomas; boys and girls tennis, Elaine Bonar; girls track, Bob Altenhof; volleyball, Sue Deas, and wrestling, Mike Helm.
Express sweep DH
DETROIT, Mich. -- The Youngstown Express Collegiate swept a doubleheader Sunday at it topped the Michigan Rams 6-3, 9-5.
Walt Nolen worked five and two thirds innings to pick up the win in the first game. He allowed six hits, struck out three and gave up three runs.
Jesse Cragwall led Express in both games as he collected four hits. Brad Schutz hit a triple and two singles..
In the second contest, Dane Towery worked five innings, allowed only five hits and three runs to pick up the win.,
Blewitt academic All-American
ASHLAND -- Ashland College's Adriane Blewitt, Boardman native, was selected a first-team 2002 Verizon Academic All-American.
A junior, Blewitt is majoring in Physical Education and carries a 3.94 grade point average.
She competes in the shot put, discus and javelin throw for Ashland.
YSU women'sbasketball camp
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youngstown State will hold a girls basketball day camp July 19-21 in Stambaugh Stadium.
The camp will be for girls entering grades 3-6.
Cost is $80 per camper. Application deadline is July 12.

Fighter dies
LAS VEGAS -- A Panamanian fighter collapsed and died in his hotel room, some 36 hours after he was stopped in a title fight.
Pedro Alcazar was taking a shower and getting ready to fly home when he suddenly collapsed. A Nevada boxing doctor said Alcazar had shown no symptoms of being hurt until he fell about 6 a.m. at the MGM Grand hotel-casino.
Soccer inductshall of famers
ONEONTA, N.Y. -- Vladislav "Bogie" Bogicevic, Shannon Higgins-Cirovski and Adolph Bachmeier were selected for induction into the National Soccer Hall of Fame.
Bachmeier captained the U.S. team during the difficult building period of the 1960s and 1970s. Bogicevic was a star with the Cosmos of the North American Soccer League in the 1970s and 1980s.
Armstrong'steammates named
SAUSALITO, Calif. -- Lance Armstrong is pedaling with momentum as he targets a fourth straight Tour de France title. The same goes for his U.S. Postal Service teammates.
Team officials announced their nine-member Tour roster, and it includes winners in two of the Tour's most significant lead-in races.
Armstrong, coming off his second victory of the year at the Dauphine Libere, will be joined by Roberto Heras of Spain, who won the Tour of Catalunya in Barcelona on Sunday.
Nicklaus out
FAR HILLS, N.J. -- Jack Nicklaus has withdrawn from this week's U.S. Senior Open because of a recurring back problem. He has played in just three competitive tournaments this year.
