CAMPBELL -- The annual Summer in the City festival is July 5-7 in Roosevelt Park.
Rides, games, entertainment, raffles, a health fair, fireworks and ethnic and American foods will be featured, along with a bike show July 5 and a car and truck show July 6.
South Side shooting
YOUNGSTOWN -- A confrontation on the South Side late Sunday led to the shooting of Jose L. Valentine Jr., 25, of Pine Hollow Drive, who was in stable condition today in St. Elizabeth Health Center.
Valentine told police he and his three cousins were driving on Auburndale Avenue around 10:40 p.m. when he spotted a man he suspected of molesting a relative.
Valentine confronted the man, and an argument ensued. The shooter fired once, hitting Valentine in the chest.
The gunman ran, and Valentine drove himself to the hospital, reports show.
Stolen car recovered
YOUNGSTOWN -- Just past midnight, four South Side teen boys in a stolen car were stopped in the 3700 block of Market Street by police who had been in the area doing crowd control near Taco Bell.
The 18-year-old driver of the 1990 Pontiac Bonneville, who had no license, was charged with grand theft auto and driving without a license.
Police discovered that a pickup order had been issued by the juvenile justice center for a 16-year-old passenger. The boy was taken to the center, where he also faces a charge of grand theft auto.
The remaining two passengers, 16 and 15, were cited for curfew violation and taken home.
Video store robbery
GIRARD -- Two clerks at the Videoland store on North State Street were robbed at gunpoint Saturday.
According to the police report, the suspect waited until the store was cleared of other customers, then pulled out the gun.
The man fled with $789.
Motorcycle accident
HUBBARD -- A motorcyclist was in stable condition this morning in St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
The Ohio State Highway Patrol reported that Randy Brant, 42, of 805 Elmwood Drive, Hubbard, was injured when his cycle crashed at 6:26 p.m. at state routes 7 and 62 in Hubbard Township.
Vehicle thefts
AUSTINTOWN -- A car and a motorcycle were stolen over the weekend, police reports show.
Sometime Friday night, Christopher B. Berman, 24, reported his 1991 Yamaha motorcycle stolen from the parking lot at Building C, Hillbrook Apartments, South Raccoon Road.
Bonis M. Spivey, 53, heard someone drive away with his 1989 black Chevy Impala Saturday from parking lot E-9, also at the Hillbrook complex. Spivey told police he heard the exhaust on his car outside and saw a suspect wearing a red sweater driving out of the lot, heading east toward South Raccoon.
Semi truck stolen
AUSTINTOWN -- A semi-tractor trailer containing 650 Sony DVD players was reported stolen Saturday.
Lindon B. Young, 35, of Inner Grove Heights, Minn., reported that the 2002 Freightliner XL was stolen from the rear parking lot of 1150 N. Canfield-Niles Rd.
The liner was the property of Werner Enterprises in Nebraska.
Police believe the thief got in by breaking the passenger-side window. Police have requested a video surveillance from the lot as evidence.
DNA identification
WARREN -- Parents can obtain a free record of identification of their children at a DNA LifePrint Child Safety Program coming to Seven Seventeen Credit Union, 3181 Larchmont Ave., from noon to 5 p.m. July 17.
A technician simply rubs the inside of the child's cheek for several seconds with an applicator that is then put into a solution.
The child's DNA is captured for 80 years.
The record is private. Only one sample is taken, and it is given to the parent on the spot.
