Woman hurt in crashafter being abducted
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police said they arrested a 49-year-old Warren man around 9 a.m. Saturday after he abducted a Superior Street woman, crashed the car in which she was riding into a pole, and fled with her purse.
Police reports said the woman was getting her handbag out of a car parked in the 2700 block of Hammaker Street when the suspect approached and entered the vehicle, then drove off with the woman in the car.
The woman told police her abductor then crashed the car into a pole near the intersection of Seneca and Oakland, then fled with her purse.
An eyewitness described the man and police apprehended him moments later.
The woman suffered minor injuries in the crash.
2 men found dead
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two 42-year-old men were found dead Saturday afternoon; police said neither death appeared suspicious.
The first body was discovered around noon in a home on Salt Springs Road on the city's West Side. That man stayed at a friend's home Friday, police said, and failed to wake up.
About a half-hour later, the body of another 42-year-old man was discovered in a home on Woodcrest Avenue on the city's East Side. Police said that man also was discovered by a friend.
Neither name is being released pending notification of relatives.
2 sisters shotin Youngstown
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two sisters were shot about 8 p.m. Friday outside a building in the 1500 block of Elm Street.
Modina L. Elliot, 25, was shot once in the leg and once in the chest. She was in critical condition at St. Elizabeth Health Center Saturday evening. No address for her was available.
Torrie L. McDowell, 26, of Tod Lane, was shot once in the buttocks. She was treated and released.
McDowell told police a woman with whom she recently had a confrontation drove up and fired several shots at the two sisters.
Man hangs himself
CAMPBELL -- An 18-year-old man hanged himself in the city jail where he was being held after being picked up on a warrant, authorities said.
The body of Nicholas Mastoris III was discovered around 11:20 p.m. Wednesday. No other information was available.
Services are being handled by Wasko Funeral Home.
Club makes donation
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Youngstown Shrine Club donated a 2002 van to the Cincinnati Burns Hospital.
The van, which will be used for patient outings and other patient and hospital events, was driven to Cincinnati by Phil Welce, Potentate, Al Koran Shrine (Cleveland), Dick Brintzenhoff, Bud Lewis and Art Orr, all members of the Youngstown Shrine Club.
The Cincinnati Burns Hospital is one of 22 facilities in the Shriners Hospitals for Children system, a network of hospitals offering specialized orthopedic, spinal cord injury and burn injury care to children.
