NAPERVILLE, Ill. -- Rodrigo Faria scored in the 81st minute to lead New York/New Jersey over Chicago. The victory moved the MetroStars (5-5-2) into a tie for second place in the Eastern Conference with the Fire (5-6-2), who have lost three straight. Faria's goal was set up by striker Mamdou Diallo, who centered a pass to Faria just outside the six-yard box. Faria moved around Fire defender C.J. Brown and fired a low shot that beat goalkeeper Zach Thornton. MetroStars goalkeeper Tim Howard stopped nine shots to earn his second consecutive shutout.
Wizards 3, Revolution 2
KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- Igor Simutenkov scored twice as the Kansas City beat New England. Simutenkov, playing in his fifth game since joining the Wizards (4-4-5) last month, scored his first goal of the season in the 22nd minute, beating New England goalkeeper Adin Brown on a penalty kick. The Revolution (4-7-1) evened the score two minutes later when defender Jay Heaps sent a Joe Franchino pass into the Wizards goal. Preki's assist in the 35th minute put him in sole possession of the MLS scoring record with 212 points, passing recently released Wizards forward Roy Lassiter.

Courage 3, Freedom 1
WASHINGTON -- Venus James, who hadn't scored in 20 career WUSA games, had two goals in her first start of the season as Carolina defeated Washington. Birgit Prinz also scored for the Courage. Bai Jie scored for the Freedom, which was trying for the first three-game winning streak in the franchise's two-year history. Washington had its four-game (2-0-2) unbeaten streak ended before 5,761 at RFK Stadium. A bad bounce led to James' first career goal in the 43rd minute. A loose ball in the defensive third bounced high and backward, landing at the of James, who was backpedaling near the top of the penalty area. James turned and dribbled toward goalkeeper Siri Mullinix, faked an inside move to draw Mullinix down and out, then slid the ball inside the right post from a tough angle. In the 53rd minute, Hege Riise lofted a free kick into the penalty area.
Beat 2, CyberRays 1
ATLANTA -- Charmaine Hooper and Cindy Parlow scored first half goals and Atlanta remained perfect in regular season play against San Jose. The loss snapped the CyberRays' five-game unbeaten streak. Atlanta scored first in the 19th minute. Hooper took a pass from Kelly Cagle and easily beat LaKeysia Beene for her sixth goal of the season. San Jose's Tisha Venturini-Hoch scored in the 43rd minute, taking a header from Brandi Chastain on a corner kick and tapping it past Briana Scurry.

BOSTON -- Dagny Mellgren and Maren Meinert scored two goals each as Boston beat New York. Tiffeny Milbrett and Emily Janss scored for New York.
