Mr. and Mrs. Carl Knittel are honored for their 65th wedding anniversary

YOUNGSTOWN -- Mr. and Mrs. Carl Knittel of Park Vista Retirement Community celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary June 19 at a private party at Denny's in Liberty.
The couple were married June 19, 1937, at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church in Wilkinsburg, Pa. They are members of Immanuel Lutheran Church.
Mr. Knittel retired in 1976 from the Springfield Local School District, where he was a teacher. He also is an organist at Immanuel Lutheran Church, where he began playing in 1935. He also played for many years at St. Mark Church in Boardman.
His wife, the former Ruth Weissenstein, retired in 1974 from teaching in the Springfield Local schools. She is a member of the church quilting group.
The couple's family includes three children, Ruth Knittel of Tucson, Ariz., Carl Knittel Jr. of Newark, Calif., and Paul Knittel of Tokyo; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
