Nursing home chronology
1926: Constructed as the Lawrence County Poor Farm.
1976: Built a 54-bed, $1.7-million wing.
1977: Changed name to Hill View Manor.
1980: Underwent a six-week strike forcing relocation of more than 100 residents.
1987: Closed the skilled care unit of the home.
1988: Put up for sale by county commissioners after a breakdown in labor negotiations. Commissioners eventually changed their minds.
1995: Complete Care Services, a private management firm, is hired to run Hill View Manor.
2001: Lawrence County Commissioners end contract with Complete Care Services, and the county takes over management of the home.
2002: The population has dropped to about 60 percent of capacity, and commissioners are considering handing the operation back to a professional management company. They say they will also consider all other options, including selling it.
