NILES -- The city is assuring residents their concerns about proposed sewer lines will be addressed.
Those living in the Lawnview and Fairlawn avenues areas are afraid their sewer problems will increase if more sanitary sewers are added to the system in that area.
The area already is susceptible to basement flooding, they have told council.
Mark Hess, city engineer, said the city is just beginning to examine the possibility of adding sewers.
Council members assured residents this week they will work closely with Trumbull County to determine if more sewers are needed.
The city is working to improve the sewer system in the Lawnview/Fairlawn area.
The money allotted for the drainage work is part of a three-year storm sewer project in the area, beginning at the Mosquito Creek.
Work schedule
Hess said only preliminary work has been done and engineering work won't start until the beginning of 2003.
Construction is projected to begin late next summer.
Hess said residents will learn more about the project as the information becomes available to officials.
The cost of the first phase is around $190,000. The total cost of the project is estimated at $500,000. Community Development Block Grant funds will be used.
A new sewer line is also planned for Camrose Drive.
Council also has approved generating $1.7 million through the sale of municipal bonds for new waterlines.
