Commander takes same job at new post

The Warren post has 16 troopers and Lisbon has 12.
LISBON -- Lt. George C. Williams, commander of the Lisbon post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, has accepted command of the Ravenna post.
Williams, 45, took command of the Lisbon post in September 2000. His last day in Lisbon is Tuesday.
Williams said his successor will be Lt. William G. Thompson Jr., commander of the Warren post.
Thompson could not be reached to comment Thursday.
A spokesman at the Warren post, however, said Thompson requested the Lisbon assignment. He said the Warren post has 16 troopers and Lisbon has 12. It's not unusual for a post commander to request assignment to a slower-paced, smaller post, he said.
Williams is from the Cleveland area and said he has wanted the Ravenna post for some time.
He said during his tenure at Lisbon, post troopers have continued successful child safety and mature drivers' programs, and made some positive strides in improving seat-belt compliance.
He said the patrol's top priority is saving lives, and his one regret is that eight motorists have died in crashes so far this year.
Williams said he will find the Ravenna post command a challenge because it is near an interstate highway, where a lot of drug trafficking occurs. The post has 24 troopers and its own K-9 unit, he said.
Williams' wife, Lisa, is a plainclothes investigator working out of the patrol's district office in Warren, he said.
Thompson's successor in Warren will be Sgt. George J. Williams of the Ashtabula post, who will be promoted to lieutenant. The Williamses are not related.
