Gunman hits worker
WARREN -- An employee at the West Market Street Sparkle Market reported being struck in the face by a gunman early Wednesday.
The worker said the man came into the store shortly before 8:30 a.m., pulled a gun and demanded money from the cash register.
When she tried to grab the gun, she was struck in the face. The gunman grabbed money and ran.
Community Family Club
WARREN -- Camp Fire USA and the Warren YMCA have started a joint effort called The Community Family Club.
Starting tonight, the club will meet the first and third Thursdays each month from 6 to 8 p.m. in the Y multipurpose room.
The club is promoting interaction between youth and adults. Parents don't just watch activities, they participate.
The program will use the traditional curriculum of Camp Fire and the Y, which has been revised to help child development and to strengthen the family.

Enforcing ordinances
NILES -- This city is increasing its enforcement of noise and firework ordinances.
Police officers have been instructed to firmly enforce the law.
City council has indicated it also will be looking at the ordinances to see if they can be enhanced.
Panel OKs 2 proposals
LORDSTOWN -- The state commission overseeing school district finances has approved two proposals from the school board. The commission approved Wednesday an updated five-year forecast that shows projected improvements in district finances.
No renewal levies are projected during the five years.
The board also approved budget appropriations for the next three months.
Teen to go on trialon a pair of charges
STRUTHERS -- Scott E. Duygo, 18, of McClure Street will go on trial July 19 on charges of killing a cat and underage drinking. He pleaded innocent at arraignment in municipal court Wednesday.
Police arrested Duygo at his home just before 11 p.m. Tuesday.
Police reports say Duygo's brother called police for help after Duygo came home drunk and began arguing with others in the household.
During the argument, Duygo walked outside, picked up a black-and-white cat in the yard, swung it around by its tail and slammed it to the ground, reports say.
A judge set his total bond at $11,000 -- $10,000 of it on the underage drinking charge, Duygo's second in the last week.
Arrested in brawl
SHARON, Pa. -- Police have arrested a third adult in the brawl that ended the Sharon-Farrell high school basketball game Feb. 2.
Preston M. Chavers, 18, of Emerson Avenue, Farrell, turned himself in just before noon Wednesday on a warrant charging him with failure to disperse, disorderly conduct and resisting arrest.
Police said he was ordered to leave the gym area, failed to do so, then fought with officers. He is free without bond. Ten juveniles have been charged.
Injured in I-76 accident
LAKE MILTON -- A New Castle, Pa., man was in stable condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center after the pickup truck he was driving went off Interstate 76 at state Route 534 Wednesday afternoon.
Randy L. Kohnen, 22, of Richlieu Avenue, was eastbound at 4:10 p.m., when he went off the road, lost control while trying to return to the pavement and slid into the median, the Ohio State Highway Patrol said.
The truck flipped several times, ending up on its side in the westbound passing lane.
Kohnen, who was not wearing a seat belt, was thrown into the median, the patrol said.
