Canfield teen denies charges of drug possession and DUI

CANFIELD -- A Herbert Road teen has pleaded innocent to several charges stemming from a traffic stop here last week.
Nicholas Volinchak, 18, is charged with possession of drugs and drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence, DUI under 21 years old and lane straddling.
He entered the pleas in Mahoning County Court here. Judge Scott Hunter released Volinchak on his own recognizance and set his next hearing for July 31.
Police said they found two bags containing suspected marijuana and a pipe in Volinchak's pocket when they pulled him over at 11:21 a.m. June 14 on South Hillside Drive. Police also arrested Volinchak's two 17-year-old passengers, one of Sawmill Run Drive, the other of Glenview Drive.
The Glenview Drive teen is charged with carrying a concealed weapon after police found brass knuckles in the car's back seat. Police also said they found two cigarettes in the pants pocket of the Sawmill Run Drive teen, who was given a ticket for underage possession of tobacco.
Both teens were cited to county juvenile court. The status of their cases was not available.
