Schnitkeyto run in Calif.
YOUNGSTOWN -- Freshman Emily Schnitkey will represent Youngstown State University at the USA Track and Field Junior National Championships in the women's 5,000-meter run Friday at Stanford University.
Schnitkey, the 2001 Horizon League Newcomer of the Year, set a school record in the 5,000 with a time of 17 minutes, 21 seconds.
She is ranked sixth in the field of 16 in the race, based on time.
Softball teamgets Bronson
YOUNGSTOWN -- Lacey Bronson, a senior at Bowling Green High, will play softball at YSU. Bronson played summer ball with the Ohio Lady Laser Red, batting .327 and stealing 18 bases in 25 attempts.

Martin replaces Shawn Rohrer who served in an interim capacity for the past two seasons.

NEW WILMINGTON -- More than 330 swimmers attended the 17th annual Titan Swim Camp held this month at Westminster College under coach Rob Klamut.

Summer golfprograms set
YOUNGSTOWN -- The Girl Scouts of Lake to River Council is offering summer golf programs for all girls ages 9-17. One session is planned for July 8-12 at Stambaugh Golf Course in Youngstown.
Another session takes place on July 15-19 at the Westgate Golf Center in Newton Falls.

Aeros win
WEST HAVEN, Conn. -- Jamie Brown pitched eight scoreless innings to lead the Akron Aeros to a 4-0 win over the New Haven Ravens Tuesday in the Eastern League.
Brown (3-1) scattered five hits, walked none and struck out six. He underwent Tommy John surgery last August and was making just his fourth start of the season.
The Aeros have won 13 of their last 15 games.
New Haven dropped its third straight.
Jhonny Peralta and Jason Fitzgerald had RBI doubles, while Victor Martinez had a solo home run for Akron. Corey Erickson had a double and an RBI.
Cristobal Correa (4-3) allowed seven hits and three runs over six innings to take the loss.
Luis Garcia doubled for the Ravens to extend his hitting streak to 10 games.
