Police arrest man accused of robbery

LIBERTY -- A 30-year-old Youngstown man charged with the Monday morning robbery of a Liberty bank is in custody.
Robert N. Naples, 30, of Poplar Avenue, was being held this morning at Austintown police headquarters after his arrest at 6:40 a.m. at the Days Inn there.
Naples was arrested based on a federal bank robbery warrant issued by the FBI. He is accused of holding up Charter One Bank on Belmont Avenue in Liberty, taking an undisclosed amount of cash.
Austintown Police Chief Ellis Gordon said Naples got a room at the Days Inn, but a desk clerk identified his photograph, which had appeared on television.
The clerk called Austintown police, and Naples was arrested in Room 230.
Gordon said the room had yet to be searched this morning.
Authorities allege Naples walked into the bank and gave a teller a note saying he had a gun and demanding cash. Bank employees recognized him because he was a frequent visitor there.
The FBI said Naples was to be arraigned today before Magistrate George Limbert in U.S. District Court in Youngstown.
