Dollar General robbery

Dollar General robbery
STRUTHERS -- Police think a robber hid inside the Dollar General store, 297 Rita St., until after it closed, then made off with $400 in cash through a door that triggered a fire alarm.
A neighbor notified police at 2:30 a.m. Monday after a door on the building was left ajar.
When police arrived, they found no signs of forced entry, but a safe appeared to have been tampered with. A store manager also discovered cash missing from a desk.
Holdup at pizzeria
YOUNGSTOWN -- Police are looking for a suspect in the robbery of a local pizzeria. An employee of Angelo's Pizza, 3215 South Ave., said a man entered the eatery about 8:30 p.m. Friday and told the clerk to hand over all the money, lifting his shirt to reveal a black .22 caliber handgun.
The clerk handed over an undetermined amount of cash, and the suspect left the business, heading east on Lucius Avenue.
The man is described as Hispanic, in his late teens or early 20s, 6 feet 8 inches tall, weighing about 130 pounds, with black hair and brown eyes.
Drug, other charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- Mark L. Sanford, 42, of Elm Street appeared in Youngstown Municipal Court on drug and other charges.
A judge ordered Sanford to pay a $20,000 cash bond on a charge of drug possession after police found him with suspected methadone Sunday morning.
Police charged him with falsification after he reportedly gave police the wrong name twice. Authorities also found out he had warrants for his arrest on theft and criminal trespassing charges. A judge set bail at $1,000 on each of those charges. A pretrial hearing is set for 2 p.m. June 25.
Conviction upheld
WARREN -- An appeals court has upheld the conviction of Alfred Pincione for operating a Howland gambling house, despite his lawyer's contention that he thought it was legal at the time.
In an opinion by Judge Robert Nader, the 11th District Court of Appeals ruled Pincione, of Canfield, acted recklessly in keeping four gambling machines, despite having three letters saying they were legal.
The letters, given to him by the man who sold the machines, were not addressed to Pincione, did not look at the law in Trumbull County and did not address the legal requirements of charitable gambling, the decision said.
Pincione, 71, was sentenced in March to 30 days in jail and fined $1,000.
Weapons charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man arrested over the weekend after police broke up a disturbance at Phar-Mor, 3720 Market St., was arraigned on several charges, including carrying a concealed weapon.
A Youngstown Municipal Court judge set bail for Donald Wilson, 21, of West Warren Avenue at $5,000 on the weapons charge.
Police found him passed out in his vehicle early Sunday morning in the business's parking lot with a loaded gun in his hand.
Wilson, who posted his bond and was released from jail Monday, also faces charges of having an open container and criminal trespassing. A preliminary hearing is set for 11:30 a.m. June 26.
Golf carts stolen
CAMPBELL -- Police recovered a golf cart stolen from Countryside Golf Course, Coitsville, in a parking lot at Kirwan Homes last week, and Coitsville police are investigating the disappearance of a second cart.
The cart recovered had been stolen from the golf course Thursday evening. It was not damaged.
Two days later, however, another golf cart was reported missing from the golf course.
Coitsville police said the second golf cart was taken from a storage garage late Sunday or early Monday. Reports say the thief entered the garage through swing doors, then unlocked the overhead garage door and removed the cart.
Closing at park
YOUNGSTOWN -- Fresh Air Camp Drive in Mill Creek Park will be closed Wednesday because of forestry work. Access to the Lily Pond will be available from McCollum Road.
