Malone
John Jeren (Poland), a sophomore on the men's track team, was a member of the 4x800-meter relay team that placed eighth (8:03.22) at the NAIA Outdoor National Championships in Olathe, Kan. Eric Hodgson (Salem), a junior, ran in the marathon, but did not finish. The Malone men placed 18th among 68 teams that scored points.
The women's team placed 21st among 57 teams. Tiffany French (Bristol), a sophomore, placed 14th in the shot put (41 feet, 1/4 inches) for the Pioneers. Dawn Woolf (United), a senior, was a member of the 4x100 relay that was disqualified in the prelims.
In women's golf, Kelly Watt (West Branch), a senior, shot 404 as the Pioneers placed last out of 23 teams at the NAIA National Championships at Pine Lakes Golf Course in Palm Coast, Fla. Watt had rounds of 105, 101, 99 and 99. Her score tied Sarah Doll for third-best on the team, behind Jody Bowersmith (362) and Laura Collier (389).
Carrie Walter, a sophomore, and Lee Ann Zimmerman, a senior, each made the American Mideast Conference tennis team.
Ashland
Adriane Blewitt (Boardman), a junior thrower and a three-time national champion for the women's track team, was selected to the Verizon Academic All-District IV College Division Track & amp; Field/Cross Country Team first team. Blewitt has a 3.54 grade-point average as a physical education major. Recently, Blewitt won the national championship in the shot put (55-10 1/2) and took runner-up in the discus (174-2) at the NCAA Division II Track and Field Championships held at Angelo State (Texas). Blewitt also won the national indoor shot put championship this year in Boston, and she took the national outdoor discus crown last year. She is an eight-time All-American.
Clarion
Sean Williams (Fitch), a distance runner, will run cross country and track. He is one of 12 Falcon athletes currently competing in track or cross country in college.
Bethany
Jessica Kunkle (Fitch), a distance runner, will run cross country and track for Bethany.
U.S. Naval Academy
Kaitlin Kempe (Fitch), a distance runner, will continue her running career at the Naval Academy. Her brother, Justin Kempe, was recently chosen by his Ohio University teammates to captain the 2003 Bobcat men's track and field team. Kempe has won several track and cross country letters at Ohio and was the Bobcats' top competitor in the 3000-meter steeplechase.
Baldwin-Wallace
Paul Lepro, a Warren JFK graduate, will play baseball. A 6-0, 195-pound outfielder, Lepro played baseball for two years and earned his second varsity letter this spring. Lepro was team captain and despite missing the first month of the season because of an injury, he hit .379 with a .724 slugging percentage and .472 on base percentage. He also played three years of football for the Eagles and earned two varsity letters. He was selected to the All-Northeast Ohio and Trumbull County geams and was recipient of the Coaches Award.
