SANDLOTS Weyant's doubles key Propane win
The Class B League's leading hitter has a .600 batting average.
STRUTHERS -- League-leading Youngstown Propane won for the 13th game in 14 starts Sunday, defeating Roth Brothers 9-5 in the Youngstown Class B League at Cene Park.
Sean Weyant went 2-for-2, both doubles, and added a sacrifice fly as the league's leading hitter improved his average to .600 (18-for-30). Weyant also had two runs batted in.
Tom Zetts, Gary Hinkson, Paul Suhar and Anthony Musolino added two hits each for Propane and Michael Krieger won his second game on the mound.
For Roth (4-10), Josh Skraba had two hits, one a triple, and two RBIs while Pat Conley doubled.
Line Drive Academy 18, Youngstown Express 7: Matt Repec hit two home runs and had five RBIs to lead Line Drive (11-3). It was the second two-homer game for Repec this season and improved his league-leading total to five. Repec finished with three hits.
Sean Curry added a three-run homer and single for four RBIs, while Dan Ford, Vasili Pahoulis and Jason Banasiewicz finished with two hits each.
Giancarlo Silvestri tripled and Justin Byler doubled. Kevin Libeg improved to 3-0.
Mo Oliver hit a two-run homer for the Express (5-9), while Chuckie Horner and Jim Huck had two hits each. One of Horner's hits was a double.
Riordan's Sports 4, Lazart 1: Greg Mentrek pitched a four-hitter, striking out 11, while James Lade hit a solo home run to lead Riordan's (8-6). Lade was 2-for-2 and scored three runs, while Mentrek improved his record to 3-1.
Justin Kurlichick pitched a complete game for Lazart (2-12). Kurlichick allowed just two earned runs and five hits. He also hit a double, as did Travis Garrett.
Livi Steel 4, Becdir 2: Steve Burnich's two-run double capped a three-run rally in the bottom of the sixth for Livi (6-8). Elliott Stevenson homered for Livi. Luke Strike (3-1) pitched a complete game, allowing just four hits and two runs while striking out four.
Mike Rhoten (2-2) threw a complete game for Becdir (7-7). He also allowed just four hits while striking out six. Gary Boris had a solo home run for Becdir.
Astro Falcons 3, Rondinelli Tuxedo 2: The Falcons (8-6) scored an unearned run in the bottom of the sixth inning. David Yost (3-1) pitched 61/3 innings and John Hay picked up the save. Yost allowed two unearned runs and struck out 10. Brad Beck had two hits for Astros, while Bob Benson doubled.
For Rondinelli (6-8), Rick Vickers pitched five innings in relief, allowing two runs (one earned) and six hits, with three strikeouts.
In the Rondinelli seventh, Eric Donangelo opened with a single to right but was thrown out at second on the play by Frank Turocy. After a single by Nick Pompeo, Hay relieved for Astros and struck out the next batter and then the pinch runner was thrown out at second base to end the game.
Class AA: YOUNGSTOWN -- Joe Marzano hit a pair of solo home runs and Jim Putko hit one, to lead Pal Joey's to a 5-3 victory over Weaver Chiropractic in the Class AA League on Sunday at Oakland Field.
Marzano's first homer led off the second inning and gave Pal Joey's a 1-0 lead. His second round-tripper was part of a three-run third.
Ty Thompson went 3-for-4, including a double, for Pal Joey's. Frank Mascola (2-0) was the winning pitcher with relief help from Eric Lamb and Marzano, who earned his third save.
Dan Noday singled twice for Weaver.
Roth Brothers 7, Jolly Joe's 6: Jeff Gruber's one-out solo home run in the top of the seventh inning helped Roth Brothers rally from a 6-1 deficit.
Gruber also homered in the third inning as part of a 3-for-4 game. Eric Jones added three singles and Sean Wardle had two hits, including a double.
For Jolly Joe's, Caleb Goist and Mark Nightingale hit home runs and Andy Caparulo and Paul Kello doubled. Shane Davis singled twice.
