BOARDMAN -- The Skate Connection roller rink is seeking private and business donors to help provide free two-hour skate sessions for charitable organizations.
Upcoming events include skating for the "Children of Chernobyl" program on June 27 and Aug. 1. The Make-A-Wish Foundation children will skate Oct. 20 and the Boys and Girls Club of Youngstown will skate Dec. 5. Mentally disabled pupils from the Rayen, Chaney and Hayes schools have several skates scheduled for the upcoming school year.
Donors would help cover the costs of food, skate rentals or gifts for the children. To help, contact Kim Kyle at the Skate Connection, (330) SK8-6989, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.
Class on treesis set next month
AUSTINTOWN -- The second session of four-part "Getting to Know Trees" class will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 13 at the township park.
During the course, participants will discuss tree structure and life processes, as well as the role of trees in the environment and the importance of trees to wildlife and humans.
The registration fee is $20, which includes a vegetarian lunch. Call (330) 793-0718 to register.
Indian artifact show
BOARDMAN -- An Indian artifact show will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 30 at the Operating Engineers Hall, 2091 McClurg Road.
The event is open to the public and features speaker Dr. James Adavasio, Indian artifacts on display and for sale and trade, and professional evaluation of artifacts. Ribbons will be awarded for best displays.
The event is sponsored by the Mahoning Valley Archaeological Society, a chapter of the Archaeological Society of Ohio.
