Scrappers grouphonors graduates
NILES -- The Mahoning Valley Professional Baseball Association honored four area high school graduates during a ceremony Saturday night at Mollica's Banquet Center.
Maplewood's Christen Clemson, Warren Harding's Leigh Carlson, South Range's Jim Sanders and Warren JFK's Chris Macali received $1,000 scholarships for their success on the diamond and in the classroom.
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers were introduced during the ceremony.
Before they open their season Tuesday in Auburn, N.Y., the Scrappers will play an exhibition game tonight against the Youngstown Express at 7 p.m. at Cafaro Field.
The home opener is Friday at 7 p.m.
Scarsella-Georgewin tournament
YOUNGSTOWN -- John Scarsella Jr., and Ken George teamed up to win the first Page & amp; Tuttle better ball golf tournament at Mill Creek Park Saturday.
The winners shot a score of 65 and won the top prize of $350 in merchandise. Second place went to Jonah Karzmer and Sean Wire with a 66.
Two teams tied for third place. They were Ryan Harmon-Zack Krichbaum and Matt Kempe-Jon Lenton with 67. Jerry Walsh and Gary Fulton led a group of four teams at 68. The others were Tim Miller-Chris Miller, Jim Vetica-Mike Morini, and Rokki Rogan-Dave Kondzich.
Track athletesqualify in AAU
YOUNGSTOWN -- Five area athletes qualified for an AAU regional track and field meet July 11-14 in Ypsilanti, Mich.
Qualifying in their respective age groups Saturday at Youngstown State were: for 13-14 year olds, Chaney's Latalia Jones in the 100 and 200; for 15-16 year olds, Ursuline's Cierra Bennett in the 400 and Chaney's Jonise Hartsfield in the 100, 200 and 400 hurdles; for 17-and-over, Fitch's Sarah Tate in the 100 and 200 and Wilson's Edward Fetuah in the 100, 200 and 400.
Boardman to holdbasketball camp
BOARDMAN -- The Boardman Spartans basketball camp, for boys entering fifth, sixth, seven, eighth and ninth grades next September, will be held at Boardman High School June 17 through June 20.
The camp will be held each day from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. and the cost is $60 per camper. For additional information, call (330) 726-3423.
Golf contest setfor St. Joseph's
AUSTINTOWN -- The men's club of St. Joseph's Church is sponsoring its annual hole-in-one contest to be held June 29-30 behind the church on New Road.
The event will be held from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. each day, and the first hole-in-one receives $500. Each participant can purchase three shots for $1, and there will also be a raffle with $350 going as the top prize.

Baseball federation to move to N. C.
TUCSON, Ariz. -- The U.S. Baseball Federation will move its offices next year from Tucson to Cary and Durham, N.C.
Other finalists in the site selection search had been Atlanta; Harford County, Md.; Osceola County, Fla.; and Palm Beach County, Fla.
The office will be at Durham Bulls Athletic Park, and training facilities will be in both Cary and Durham.
The USBF moved to Tucson in 1997 after spending its first 19 years in Trenton, N.J.
Rossner wins stage
IDAHO CITY, Idaho -- Petra Rossner of Team Saturn won the first stage of the Hewlett-Packard Women's Challenge cycling race Saturday, finishing the hilly 69.5-mile leg in 2 hours, 49 minutes, 31 seconds.
The nine-stage Women's Challenge will cover 543 miles, at altitudes ranging from 2,000 feet to 7,800 feet.
Team Saturn placed five riders in the top 10 on Saturday, including Anna Millward, who finished fifth. Diana Ziliute of the Lithuanian national team was second, followed by teammate Jolanta Polikeviciute and Sara Ulmer of the New Zealand team.

Hewitt and Henmanto meet in final
LONDON -- Top-seeded Lleyton Hewitt and No. 2 Tim Henman will meet in the final of the Queen's Club grass-court championship for the second straight year after overcoming stubborn opposition Saturday.
Hewitt advanced with a 7-6 (5), 6-3 victory over Sjeng Schalken, and Henman edged Raemon Sluiter 6-7 (5), 6-4, 6-2.
Kiefer charges back
HALLE, Germany -- Nicolas Kiefer charged back in the third set Saturday to beat Roger Federer and advance to the final of the Gerry Weber Open.
Kiefer, who also beat Pete Sampras at this Wimbledon warmup, rallied to knock off Federer 4-6, 6-4, 6-4.
Kiefer will face Yevgeny Kafelnikov, who reached his first final of the year by ousting Kenneth Carlsen, 4-6, 6-3, 6-3.
Jelena Dokic to face Anastasia Myskina
BIRMINGHAM, England -- Top-seeded Jelena Dokic beat American Lisa Raymond 6-1, 7-5 Saturday to advance to the final of the DFS Classic grass-court tournament.
Dokic will face Russia's Anastasia Myskina, who advanced to the final with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Australia's Nicole Pratt.
Anna Smashnovain Vienna final
VIENNA, Austria -- Anna Smashnova beat local favorite Patricia Wartusch 6-3, 6-2 Saturday to reach the final of the $170,000 WTA Wien Energie Grand Prix.
The 25-year-old Israeli rallied from an 0-3 deficit in the first set and won 12 of the match's final 14 games. Smashnova, ranked No. 23, has won two tournament titles this season and will face defending champion Iroda Tulyaganova from Uzbekistan in the final.
Tulyaganova beat surprise semifinalist Petra Mandula from Hungary 6-0. 6-3.
Martina Navratilovato play singles
Martina Navratilova, who retired in 1994 after winning a record 167 singles titles, received a wild card to play in next week's Eastbourne tournament.
Navratilova was already in England practicing for the doubles draw with partner Natasha Zvereva when she learned of her singles berth. The grass-court tournament begins Monday.
Because she no longer has a singles ranking, Navratilova had to be granted a wild card.
