YOUNGSTOWN -- Prenatal breast-feeding class is scheduled from 6:30-8:30 p.m. June 25 at Forum Health Northside Medical Center. The cost is $10, but there is no charge if the individual is enrolled in one of Forum Health's childbirth classes. Call (800) 842-9727 to register.
New Ohio CDF director
Eileen Cooper Reed, director of the Cincinnati Children's Defense Fund, has been named director of the Ohio CDF. Outgoing Ohio CDF director, Mark Real, will become president of a new organization, KidsOhio.org. CDF issues include state expansion of child health coverage, Head Start and child care services.
Health fair, open house
WARREN -- Horizon Village Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 2473 North Road N.E., is offering a health fair and open house from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. June 27. Antitrust lawsuit
COLUMBUS -- Twenty-nine states, led by Ohio, have filed an antitrust lawsuit charging that pharmaceutical manufacturer Bristol-Myers Squibb monopolized the market to maximize profits from the sale of a cancer fighting drug, Taxol, by acting illegally to keep the less expensive, generic version of the drug off the market. The lawsuit alleges that Bristol-Myers manipulated the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office by fraudulently securing patents for a drug that was initially discovered by the National Cancer Institute and developed and tested by the NCI at taxpayer expense.
Hospital accreditation
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- St. Francis Hospital was awarded accreditation from the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Health Care Organizations as a result of its demonstrated compliance with the Joint Commission's nationally recognized health care standards. St. Francis earned a score of 97 out of 100. The Joint Commission's on-site survey of St. Francis in March included its Home Care Services, Hospice and Skilled Nursing Center.
