Boardman lands three spots on coaches team



The Boardman High baseball team may have fallen short of the state tournament, but the state still recognized the Spartans' talent.
Three Boardman players were named to the All-Ohio team by the Ohio High School Baseball Coaches Association.
Third baseman Tom Zetts was selected to the Division I first team, while second baseman Andrew Good was picked to the second team and outfielder Sean Curry honorable mention.
The Spartans lost to Canton GlenOak in the regional semifinals.
Wadsworth's Drew Saylor was player of the year and Dayton Carroll's Mike Sheets coach of the year.
Three area players in Div. II were honored. Chaney catcher D.J. Fahndrich and third baseman Gary Boris, along with West Branch outfielder Drew Romigh, were selected to the second team.
Granville got the player and coach of the year in Matt Long and Jon Bennett, respectively.
In Div. IV, three area players were also picked to the second team -- Western Reserve third baseman Luke Srock, South Range outfielder Brad Johnson and Columbiana shortstop Dean Stokes.
St. Henry swept the player and coach of the year awards, with Kris Moorman and John Dorner, respectively. In Div. III, Johnstown Northridge's Ryan Grube was player of the year and Heath's Dave Klontz coach of the year.
