CLEANING UP
Decades of making steel
WCI Steel is completing the final phases of a $4 million, government-mandated environmental cleanup at its Warren mill. The steelmaker is the fourth steel company to operate on the site in 90 years:
1912 -- Trumbull Iron and Steel Co. sets up operations on Pine Avenue in Warren.
1928 -- Republic Steel buys the business.
1984 -- Republic merges with LTV Steel.
1988 -- Renco Group buys the mill and names it Warren Consolidated Industries; renamed WCI Steel in 1991.
