No notice filed in court
CLEVELAND -- Richard E. Detore, a Virginia engineer, must still be shopping for another lawyer. Last month, U.S. District Judge Lesley Brooks Wells granted a request by his Washington, D.C., lawyers to withdraw. Detore was to let the judge know by Tuesday who will represent him or if he intends to represent himself. No notice was filed with the court. His trial is set for July 29. He is accused of taking part in a scheme to bribe U.S. Rep. James A. Traficant Jr., convicted in April of racketeering crimes. In a filing Wednesday, Traficant's lawyers, meanwhile, continue to assert his position that he deserves a new trial because the jury selection process violated his constitutional rights. He will be sentenced June 27.
