Man arrested, dog killed during search
AUSTINTOWN -- Police killed a pit bull and arrested a Carnegie Avenue man on a charge of heroin trafficking while executing a search warrant Wednesday afternoon at his home.
The man, Ismael Camacho III, 21, also is charged with being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm and possession of drug paraphernalia. Police said they found two guns and four syringes in the home.
Reports do not state what led Mahoning County Common Pleas Court to issue the warrant.
Police and members of the county violent crimes and drug task forces conducted the search around 2:15 p.m. Two officers said that as they entered the home, an aggressive pit bull lunged at them, growling and bearing its teeth.
Each officer shot the dog once, killing it.
Camacho and another man were in the home's dining room. Police found $1,800 and a plastic bag containing brown powder in the dining room; a loaded handgun in the kitchen; another handgun in a closet; and four syringes, a scale and several pills in a bedroom.
Reports do not state what happened to the other man.
