Rooners in tourney
TROY -- B.B. Rooners, the Mahoning Valley team of the Greater Akron Baseball Federation, will compete in the Veterans Appreciation Tournament this weekend.
The Rooners are off to a 19-1 start this season. Members of the team are Ben Barnett, Lakeview; Adam Daugherty, Brookfield; Jeff Hehr, Boardman; Steve Hudson, Howland; Jory Ramer, Niles; Cole Budinsky, Poland; Jeff Claar, Niles; Alan Hoover, Warren; Aaron Johnstone, Niles; Sam Mann, Howland; John Nastase, Girard; Mike Darrah, Rootstown; Chris Neag, Akron; Marty Heben, Hermitage; Nolan Reimold, Greenville; Chris Rung, Hermitage; Matt Colella, Shenango; Josh Faltot, Mercer; Jeremy Hedegore, Grove City and Bill Lentz, Greenville.
B.B. Rooners will also compete in the Welland, Ontario Canada tournament, June 20-23; The Beast of the East tournament, Wheeling, W. Va. July 4-7, and the Battlecreek Mich. Tournament July 11-14.
Place in jr. golf event
ALLIANCE -- Tim Morrow and Mollie Boney, both of Boardman, placed second and third in their respective divisions in the OGCOA junior golf tournament at Tannenhauf this week.
Morrow was second in the boys 13-15 age group shooting a 77, while Boney placed third in the 13-15 girls group with a score of 105.
Over 90 juniors competed in the meet, the first of 12 tournaments around the state set up by the Ohio Golf Course Owners Association.
Blaney, Schraderat Sharon
HARTFORD -- Area racing fans will be able to get up close and personal with a couple of NASCAR Winston Cup regulars Saturday, and they won't have to go to the race at Michigan to do it.
As part of "NASCAR Night" at The New Sharon Speedway, Dave Blaney, driver of the No. 77 Jasper Engines Ford and Ken Schrader, driver of the No. 36 M & amp;M's Pontiac, along with Ryan Pemberton, crew chief for Blaney's Jasper Ford, will be on hand to sign autographs. Throughout the evening officials of the 3/8-mile dirt track will hold a drawing for autographed NASCAR Winston Cup merchandise and two garage passes for a NASCAR Winston Cup race of the winner's choice.
The highlight of the night will be Blaney, who grew up racing at Sharon Speedway, competing in the evening's V-8 Modified feature.
In addition to the V-8 Modified class, Sharon Speedway will run its three other regular series: 410 Sprint Cars, E-Modifieds and Pure Stocks.
Gates open at 4 p.m., with hot laps beginning at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m. Tickets are available at the gate. Reserved seats are $12 for adults, $7 for kids 12-15 and $2 for children 3-11. General admission prices are $10 for adults, $5 for kids 12-15 and free for children 11 and younger. Coolers less than 14 inches are permitted. Officer indicted
FLEMINGTON, N.J. -- A police officer has been indicted on charges he interfered with the investigation into the fatal shooting at the home of former NBA star Jayson Williams.
Eric Allena, a Bridgewater Township police officer, was charged Wednesday with second-degree official misconduct and third-degree tampering with witnesses.

War Emblem lawsuit
LOS ANGELES -- The majority owner of Kentucky Derby and Preakness winner War Emblem has filed a lawsuit seeking the $1 million bonus for the colt's victories in the Illinois and Kentucky derbies.
The dispute centers on who is entitled to the $1 million bonus -- Thoroughbred Corp. owner Prince Ahmed bin Salman or War Emblem's previous owner, Russell Reineman, who retains a 10 percent interest.
