Planners OK school's move

COLUMBIANA -- A New Waterford truck-driving school outgrowing its space there will move here in August.
Bob Belding, city building and zoning officer, said the city planning commission approved a request Tuesday from Adam Dillon to locate his American Truck Driving Academy at 44151 state Route 14 on the former Hubbard Truck Stop site. Dillon said the truck-driving school will operate only during the day. He said the students will practice driving at the rear of the lot.
The commission also approved the opening of a pool hall, as yet unnamed, at 157 S. Main St. Sandra Gilbert will operate it. Belding said Gilbert will offer soft drinks and light snacks for sale, as well as pool supplies.
Tom Keller, an architect representing Cocca Development of Boardman, told the planning commission of the developers' continuing plans for a strip plaza at state Route 14 and Windjammer Drive. The developer presented initial plans to the commission several weeks ago.
Belding said the planning commission approved plans for the plaza to be anchored by a Dollar General Store and for offices of Salem Internal Medicine physicians to be located there.
He said the developer has two other storefronts available at the planned plaza. A separate building will also house a bank, but the developer has not determined which one will locate there, Belding said.
