HILLSVILLE, Pa. -- An informational meeting and public hearing on a new Mahoning Township waterline will be scheduled as soon as possible.
Supervisor Poncho Exposito said Tuesday ground will be broken on the project July 1. The meeting will give residents an opportunity to ask questions and find out if they qualify for grants available for low- to moderate-income residents.
That project will extend water service along Matthews Road, U.S. Route 224, the north Edinburg area and Pa. Route 551 from U.S. Routes 224 and 422 and on Route 551 from U.S. Route 422 east to New Castle. The project also will extend to parts of Union Township.
Supervisor Gary Pezzuolo said the next phase, the portion planned for south Edinburg to the North Beaver Township line, is being redesigned and will probably extend into North Beaver Township.
Cable TV service
Supervisors announced they have sent a letter to AT & amp;T Broadband asking that cable television service be extended to 14 residences in Butch Estates, a development off U.S. Route 224
They also announced when the township planning commission meets June 25 it will work on an ordinance to govern location of fireworks retail stores. Exposito and Pezzuolo requested an ordinance last month after the opening of the Sky King Fireworks in an industrial park across from the township building.
The business is owned by Supervisor Vito Yeropoli.
Exposito apologized Tuesday night for his statement last month that he was afraid the business would attract others and didn't want the township to become a center for fireworks sales.
He said he only wants to make sure they are in appropriate areas.
After the meeting, Solicitor Thomas Leslie said Sky King's location in an industrial park away from traffic and residences is acceptable, but the zoning law is not specific enough.
Advertising for bids
Supervisors agreed to advertise for bids to buy a used trailer to haul a roller and to sell an old tri-axle trailer and a 3-ton Gallion roller.
Exposito announced a grant has been awarded to the Lawrence County Regional Council of Governments to do a study on a regional police department. The study will begin soon, he said.
