Demolition to begin at area school

EAST PALESTINE -- Demolition of the 1912 portion of East Palestine Elementary School is to begin next week.
Eslich Wrecking Co. of Louisville has the $54,000 contract.
Superintendent Jeff Richardson said the state has approved contracts for the demolition and for construction of kindergarten and first-grade classrooms, a media center, cafeteria and computer lab.
Richardson said Eslich is to fence in the area this week in preparation for the demolition.
Kreidler Construction of Poland is the general contractor for the $5 million addition.
School officials had hoped to bid the elementary school project in May 2001 with construction to begin this summer. However, bids were not awarded until January.
The bid process was delayed due to paperwork required by the state and by confusion over bid specifications.
Because of the confusion, school officials had to rebid the project, including advertising for bids for two weeks.
