Man hurt in accident
WEST MIDDLESEX, Pa. -- A Mercer man was in serious condition this morning in UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, with injuries received in an accident in Shenango Township.
Shenango police said James J. Madasz, 57, of Yankee Ridge Road, was westbound on Pa. Route 318 when a van pulling a 16-foot aluminum fishing boat on a trailer pulled into his path from Bethel-New Wilmington Road shortly after 8 a.m. Monday. Madasz's van hit the boat broadside, separating it and its trailer from the tow vehicle, police said.
The impact caused the rear of the boat to whip around toward Madasz's van, and the boat motor flew from the rear of the boat and apparently hit Madasz through the driver's-side window, police said.
Madasz suffered head injuries and was taken to UPMC Horizon in Farrell and later transferred to Pittsburgh.
