AUSTINTOWN Trustees order demolition of 4 buildings in township
Trustees declared 14 properties high-grass nuisances.
AUSTINTOWN -- Trustees have ordered the demolition of a vacant former church, two vacant houses and a dilapidated garage.
The abandoned fire-damaged church is at 1249 Mildred Ave.; the houses are at 82 S. Four Mile Run Road and 6995 Bowman Ave., and the garage is at 2831 S. Canfield-Niles Road.
The owners will have seven days to begin demolishing them or the township will hire a contractor and charge the cost to the owner's property tax bill.
High grass nuisance
At their meeting Monday, trustees also declared 14 properties public nuisances because grass there is between 1 foot and 4 feet high.

Trustees also opened four bids ranging from $309,400 to $417,500 for paving 8.5 miles of township roads, but deferred awarding a contract pending further examination of the bids.
Trustees also endorsed a beer and wine carryout license for Kmart, and zoning inspector Michael Kurilla announced that a $350,000 garden center is under construction at Wal-Mart and a $1.3 million Ruby Tuesday's restaurant will soon be built on Mahoning Avenue, just west of Niles-Canfield Road.
