JEONJU, South Korea -- Pauleta scored the second hat trick of the tournament. In the first half, Pauleta put in a low shot in the 14th minute, beating Poland goalkeeper Jerzy Dudek. The second goal came in the 65th as Luis Figo, the FIFA player of the year, sent in a cross for the sliding Pauleta. The forward made it three in the 77th, beating Poland defender Tomasz Waldoch and shooting the ball off Dudek's foot. Rui Costa made it 4-0 in the 87th.
Tunisia 1, Belgium 1
OITA, Japan -- Tunisia placed a dent in Belgium's hopes, holding it to a tie as Raouf Bouzaiene's 17th-minute free kick negated Marc Wilmots' opening goal.
Mexico 2, Ecuador 1
MIYAGI, Japan -- Gerardo Torrado scored the winning goal in the 57th minute Sunday as Mexico rallied to defeat World Cup newcomer Ecuador. The victory lifted Mexico to 2-0 in the tournament and kept the CONCACAF region unbeaten. It also gave the Mexicans their first consecutive wins in World Cup finals play. Jared Borgetti also scored for Mexico, which next faces Italy on Thursday. A tie in that game will send the Mexicans into the second round. The Mexicans are playing in their 12th World Cup and have reached the second round every time except 1978. Agustin Delgado scored Ecuador's first World Cup goal in the fifth minute, heading home a cross from Ulises de la Cruz.
Turkey 1, Costa Rica 1
INCHEON, South Korea -- Winston Parks scored the tying goal on a left-footed shot in the 86th minute. Costa Rica is second in Group C. Costa Rica closes Thursday against Brazil, which can rest its starters. Turkey, in its first World Cup in 48 years, finishes against China. Emre Bolozoglu put Turkey ahead in the 56th minute off the rebound of his own shot.
Japan 1, Russia 0
YOKOHAMA, Japan -- Japan got its first victory in a World Cup as Junichi Inamoto scored his second goal of the tournament. Atsushi Yanagisawa tipped a pass from the midfield to the open Inamoto near the front of the goal in the 51st minute. The midfielder sent a right-footed shot over the head of Russia goalkeeper Ruslan Nigmatullin.
