COLUMBIANA CORNER Firefighters rescue dog from the roof

During the severe thunderstorms that swept through the area last week, a Salem family's Rottweiler was rescued by Salem firefighters.
Chief Walt Greenamyer said the dog, which was home alone, apparently became frightened by the lightning and thunder and crawled out an upstairs window and onto a porch roof.
Neighbors called firefighters to the rescue and assured them the dog was friendly, so they coaxed the dog back into the house through the window.
"We got there, and he was just standing up on the roof, watching the world go by," Greenamyer said.
Leetonia Board of Education
A recent Leetonia Board of Education meeting was the last to be in the Orchard Hill School. Board members conducted the meeting in the school library amid half-empty bookshelves, stacked, packed boxes and other signs of a move in progress.
The district is moving out of the Orchard Hill and Washingtonville elementary schools and thejunior/senior high into a new school complex adjacent to Orchard Hill.
The Orchard Hill building will be torn down to make way for the main parking lot for the new facility.
As he instructed those gathered to stand and face the American flag for the Pledge of Allegiance, board Member Doug Jones joked, "We still know where there's a flag."
Later in the meeting, the board hired Washingtonville resident Herman Frank II as supervisor of buildings, grounds and transportation.
Frank said he is honored to have the position in one of the newest school facilities in the state. He said his son, H.C. Frank, will be a Leetonia eighth-grader come fall.
"We're looking forward to being in the new school," Frank said. "My wife is looking forward to it too. She says she can't wait to send both of her boys off to school each morning."
