Police hope to nab golfers for scramble
HOWLAND -- Youngstown Police Department is sponsoring its 11th annual benefit golf outing June 28 at Avalon South Golf Course.
The four-person scramble will begin with registration and a luncheon at 11 a.m. followed by a shotgun start at noon. The cost for each golfer is $65. The fee includes snacks and beverages, and following the round of competitive play there will be a steak dinner at 5:30 p.m. and the awarding of prizes.
Proceeds from the tournament will be donated to the American Cancer Society for support of its Camp Friendship program.
The program is designed to provide children and young adults with the opportunity to attend an accredited camp and to participate in activities.
The young people will have the chance to meet and interact with other children who have cancer or who are in cancer remission. The only requirement is that each youth is to secure transportation to and from the camp.
Among the members of Youngstown Police Department involved in organizing the event are Laura Brown, Fred LoSasso, John Patton and Tony Tulipano.
