Background: Rev. Powell came to Youngstown in 1925.
Achievements: She has been recognized and honored for her humanitarian, evangelistic and charitable works, including her leadership in organizing the Southside Prayer Band. She is the first woman to be ordained as a Baptist minister in the Mahoning Valley; was the founder of the World Fellowship Church in 1962, and, with the help of members and friends, built a new church in 1996; was inducted into Ohio Women's Hall of Fame on Oct. 17, 2001; and was a nominated for an Athena Award.
