Guide for women offerssome handy travel tips
Though at first glance "Curves on the Highway: A Self-Help Guide for Female Automobile Travelers" (Roberts Rhinehart Publishers, $11) may seem demeaning, it's actually a fairly handy tool -- particularly for newly widowed or divorced women used to traveling with a man.
The book is designed for cross-country, solo travelers and contains practical tips on what to pack, how to stay safe and how to deal with unexpected auto emergencies. Female-friendly attractions are highlighted, along with ways to keep yourself entertained.
Find cheap lodgingsby checking out Web
Want to know where you can find an Orlando hotel room for less than $40 or a Las Vegas double for less than $50?
The answer may be no further than your home computer as the booking wars heat up.
The latest entry is hotels.com, which claims to be the world's largest specialized Web site for booking hotels, vacation rentals, condos, time- shares and other types of lodging.
The Web site is operated by the Dallas-based Hotel Reservations Network, a large- scale consolidator that buys up rooms from hotel franchises at low prices and resells them through affiliated Web sites or its own retail site.
Expedia is the next largest online seller of hotel rooms.
Boston hotel promotesan anniversary deal
If you spent your wedding night or honeymoon in Boston's Fairmont Copley Plaza any time between 1912 and 2002, you can get the first night of a weekend stay at the original rate you paid. For example, a couple who stayed at the Copley Plaza in 1950 paid $7.50 for their first night. You'll have to prove it, though, with a copy of your wedding night receipt and your marriage license.
Celebrating its 90th anniversary, the hotel in the heart of Boston claims to have been host to more wedding celebrations than neighboring Trinity Church.
During July and August, the hotel is offering a Sunday night 90th-anniversary rate. With a Saturday night stay at prevailing rates, guests get Sunday night for $90.
