Columbus to celebrate via the arts



The original Emancipation Proclamation will be on display during the festivities.
COLUMBUS -- To commemorate Juneteenth, the Ohio Historical Center in Columbus offers an opportunity to view the original Emancipation Proclamation June 20-23.
Beginning June 19, music, dance, drama, hands-on activities and living history characters -- including Paul Anderson as Frederick Douglas and Joseph Ames as Abraham Lincoln -- will bring to life the Civil War era.
Members of the Fifth U.S. Colored Troops of Ohio re-enactment regiment will appear at the center throughout the weekend and at the Ohio Village Saturday and Sunday. Visitors are a five-minute drive from the 12th annual Juneteenth Celebration at Franklin Park, a community event that educates through entertainment, interactive programming and informal fellowship.
The original Emancipation Proclamation will be displayed from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. June 20-21 and 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. June 22-23.

Ticket fees, which include admission to all programs, are $6 for adults, $2 for pupils ages 6 and up, and free for children 5 and under. Parking is $3.
OHS members are admitted free and park for free but must call to arrange for timed tickets. Groups of 20 or more must make reservations by calling the scheduling office.
