HERMITAGE Man charged in burglaries

HERMITAGE, Pa. -- When the owner of Kilgore's Sales & amp; Service noticed that money was missing from his cash register a couple of mornings this week, he called in the police to help find out what was going on.
Police discovered pry marks on a door and determined that someone was probably entering the building after the business closed for the day.
They marked some of the money left in the cash register Thursday after the 3029 E. State St. business closed at 5 p.m. and rigged the place with a silent alarm that would alert police to an intruder.
The alarm went off around 5:30 p.m. and police rushed to the scene to find John A. Whitmore, 19, of 3095 E. State St., hiding in the men's room. Police said they also found some of the marked money in that restroom.
During questioning, Whitmore admitted breaking into the business once earlier this week and taking money from the register, police said.
Whitmore lives in a trailer park behind Kilgore's, police said.
He was arraigned before District Justice Henry Russo on two counts of burglary and two counts of theft and freed on his own recognizance pending a preliminary hearing.
Kilgore's is an auto repair shop and towing service.
