No rape charges will be filed in case

CANFIELD -- No charges will be filed in the alleged rape of a male 19-year-old special needs student after police and prosecutors determined the claims were unfounded.
"There will be no charges since the story was recanted, and because the parties involved did not have a clear understanding" of the claims, Officer Jim Schmidt said.
Canfield police began investigating after workers at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown performed a rape test on the male, who was allegedly raped at the Mahoning County Career Technical Center last Thursday.
Schmidt said investigators determined there was no rape, and that the student did not intend to mislead police with the claim.
Dr. Roan Craig, school superintendent, said the school conducted its own investigation in cooperation with Canfield police, and that the matter is now considered closed.
