Ex-cop convicted of trespassing and menacing

BROOKFIELD -- A former township police officer has been convicted of misdemeanor charges of menacing by stalking and criminal trespassing.
James Baker, who resigned his police officer position last week, pleaded no contest Thursday in Brookfield Eastern District Court.
A date for sentencing hasn't been set.
The maximum sentence he could receive is seven months in jail and a $1,250 fine.
The Trumbull County Sheriff's Department filed the charges Monday against Baker, who was a lieutenant. He had worked at the department for 10 years.
Baker had been on administrative leave since April.
Sheriff's department officials were trying to determine if Baker broke into a mobile home in April.
Brookfield Police Chief Dan Faustino has said that he was conducting an internal investigation into the matter.
The internal investigation ended when Baker resigned.
A former friend of Baker's lived in the mobile home off state Route 7, the chief has said, and nothing was taken.
Baker, who was off duty at the time of the break-in, was a suspect from the beginning of the investigation, Faustino has said.
