LORDSTOWN -- Six finalists were interviewed during an executive session of the board of education Wednesday for the position of Lordstown High School principal. Principal Larry Crawford will not be returning in the fall.
The finalists are:
U Michael Alvetro of Warren, a Lordstown High School science teacher since 1998.
U Michael Hanshaw of Girard, who has served as principal of Mineral Ridge High School since 1996.
U Roland Purnell of Canfield, director-principal of the Gordon D. James Career Center in Lordstown since 2000.
U Troy Radinsky of Cortland, the high school assistant principal in the Pymatuning Valley School District.
U Raymond Vitullo of Youngstown, middle school assistant principal in the Liberty Local School District.
U Dennis Wingard of Canfield, a tech prep teacher at Gordon D. James.
Sewer line concerns
NILES -- Concerns were raised at Wednesday's council meeting over proposed sewer lines outside of the city.
If approved, sanitary sewers would be installed in the area of Heaton Boulevard and Chute Street in Weathersfield Township.
Councilmen were concerned that flooding problems off North Road would result. Homes now using use septic systems would be included in the sewer system and disposed of by the city.
A meeting between township and city officials will be held to discuss the proposal.
Credit-card fraud case
PITTSBURGH -- A federal grand jury here has indicted a McDonald, Ohio, woman on charges of credit-card fraud and possessing and uttering a forged check.
The two-count indictment named Jamie Lynn Gentile, 42, of Ohio Avenue as the sole defendant.
The indictment says Gentile was employed as the office manager of a dental practice maintained by Dr. George Mendel of New Castle.
The indictment says Gentile fraudulently obtained a corporate credit card and charged in excess of $13,000 in goods and services for her personal use.
It also charges Gentile with forging a check on the business account. She made the check payable to herself in the amount of $400.
She faces a maximum sentence of 10 years in prison and a $25,000 fine if convicted, said Mary Beth Buchanon, a United States attorney.
Mosquito spraying
HOWLAND -- The township plans to spray for mosquitoes between 9 p.m. Tuesday and 5 a.m. Wednesday.
Residents are encouraged to close windows and keep pets indoors during spraying.
In case of rain, spraying will take place the following evening.
Rabies shot clinics
WARREN -- The Trumbull County Veterinary Medical Association is sponsoring rabies shot clinics from 1 to 3 p.m. Wednesday at a dozen locations around the county.
The fee will be $5 per pet. County regulations require all dogs, cats, ferrets and 4-H animals to get an annual rabies shot.
Clinic locations are the Bristol Township Garage, Brookfield Township Fire Department, Champion Township Garage, Cortland City Garage, Howland Township Road Department building, Hubbard Township Administrative Building, Kinsman Fire Department, Churchill Park in Liberty, Lordstown Village Park Complex recreation hall, Newton Falls Township Garage, Waddell Park Pavilion in Niles, and the Octagon Shelter in Warren Packard Park.
Seeking memorabilia
WARREN -- The Trumbull County 4-H Advisory Committee is looking for pictures, articles or memorabilia from past fairs.
The material will be used for a display celebrating the 100th anniversary of 4-H at the Trumbull County Fair, July 9 to 14.
Break-ins reported
NILES -- Overnight break-ins were reported along Youngstown-Warren Road. Nothing was reported missing from any of the three sites.
Shortly before midnight Wednesday, a breaking and entering was reported at the Ski Chalet, where someone broke the rear door.
Around 12:20 a.m. today, an alarm alerted police to a break-in at Health South. An east window had been pried open. A screwdriver and pair of pliers were recovered outside.
A few minutes later, police found that an office window on the south side of the Trumbull County Convention & amp; Visitors Bureau building had been forced open.
