BASEBALL
Tri-T Pony (ages 13-14)
Salem VFW 8, Boardman Quint's Auto Body 7 -- Sean McKee, Dan Anderson and Josh Dankovich combined for the pitching win. Dankovich received a save and sparked the offense with a home run and double. McKee, Tyler Bender and Cory Rickman both had two hits. For Boardman, Justin Thomas and Brian Skeener each had a hit and scored twice. Also hitting and scoring were Brian Clarkson, Ryan Orosz and Bobby Danks.
Struthers Acordia Insurance 12, Boardman Boosters/GF Insulation 1 -- Dennis Walton had three singles and Jake Leko, Mike Galletta and Nathan Zappia each added two hits for Struthers. Andrew Mindy, Braxton Forde, Steve Vrabel and Vince Kordic each singled for Boardman.
Boardman GF Insulation 15, Niles Ianazones 5 -- Vince Calautti and Marty Oravec combined to pitch a six-hitter for the winners. Calautti started, faced 15 batters and gave up the five runs, while Oravec pitched no-hit ball against the last 11 batters with three strikeouts. Nick Savage starred defensively at third base with three putouts. Mike Barranger went 3-for-4 at the plate with two doubles and four RBIs. Also contributing offensively were Braxton Forde, Ryan James, John Drummond, Ryan Rosati and Josh Day.
SOFTBALL
Pony (ages 13-14)
Canfield Women Democrats 17, Poland Cavalier Mobile X-Ray 10 -- Winning pitcher Julie Cooper and Courtney Porter each had three hits including doubles. Dana Elias, Megan Tomaino and Christine Smythe each had two hits while Brittany Lesho homered. For Poland, Amanda Reardon and Kelsey Reardon each had two hits. Cathy Sacu and Samantha Mazzuppa tripled.
