Man pleads guilty
YOUNGSTOWN -- Keith D. Crockett, 19, of Victor Avenue, will serve at least three years in prison and possibly up to 27 years after pleading guilty Wednesday to three counts of felonious assault.
Crockett initially denied he fired into a crowd outside a Hillman Street home Sept. 9, 2000, injuring three people.
He and a companion went to the home to confront a man they thought had stolen a CD player from Crockett's relative.
Crockett faces the mandatory three-year term because of combined gun specifications, and up to eight years in prison on each felonious assault charge.
Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge R. Scott Krichbaum set sentencing for 11 a.m. Aug. 1.
Grand jury indicts 2
CLEVELAND -- A federal grand jury has indicted two Youngstown men on charges they possessed firearms after having been convicted of felonies.
The U.S. attorney's office for the Northern District of Ohio said Bud Roland, 53, of Vaughn Avenue, was charged with possessing a machine gun.
In a separate case, Steven L. Stokes, 28, of East Judson Avenue, was charged with possessing a firearm.
Authorities did not identify the charges in the felony convictions.
Both cases were investigated by Youngstown police and the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
Machines, tools stolen
AUSTINTOWN -- An Elmwood Avenue man reported the theft of machines and power tools from his residence.
Police reports say someone entered the attached garage of the home between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday, taking a lawn tractor, a mower, a chain saw, a set of golf clubs and various power tools valued at $1,699.
Seeking bids for library
YOUNGSTOWN -- The board of trustees of The Public Library of Youngstown & amp; Mahoning County has authorized the clerk-treasurer to advertise for and open bids for the millwork for the new Austintown library under construction at 600 Raccoon Road.
The board also authorized the Austintown branch committee to award the bid.
The trustees' next regular meeting will be at 4 p.m. June 13 at the Main Library.
Summer youth program
YOUNGSTOWN -- The National Youth Sports Program's summer youth activities for kids 10 to 16 from low-income households begin Tuesday at Youngstown State University.
The program will run from 8:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily through July 19 at YSU and includes basketball, volleyball, flag football, soccer and golf.
Participants receive two hot meals and one snack each day, medical exams, lifeguard training, field trips and sports equipment.
Registration is being conducted at the Youngstown Area Community Action Council, 934 Oak St.

Girl faces charges
YOUNGSTOWN -- A 16-year-old girl described by police as being out of control, was taken from The Rayen School to the juvenile justice center Wednesday, charged with assault on a teacher and menacing.
When the teacher tried to break up a fight between the Broadway Avenue girl and another student, he got punched several times in the chest, arm and shoulder, reports show.
Arrested on warrant
YOUNGSTOWN -- Emmer A. Leflore, 44, of Samuel Street was arrested at his home early today on a bench warrant issued in October 1999.
Leflore is charged with a probation violation -- nonpayment of his $100 fine on a theft conviction.
The theft occurred in July 1997.
Leflore was taken to the county jail pending arraignment today in municipal court.
Robbery reported
YOUNGSTOWN -- A Pastino's Pizza deliveryman was robbed of $32 by a teen-age boy on Auburndale Avenue on the South Side around 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, police said.
The deliveryman, who was sent to an Auburndale address with a pizza, was told by the resident she already had a pizza and didn't want any more. As the deliveryman got back into his car, the suspect reached in through the open window and grabbed the cash from a shirt pocket.
Police believe the woman at the Auburndale house knows the identity of the thief.
