BOARDMAN -- A clerk at the Dunkin Donuts store at 6041 Market St. told police he was robbed at gunpoint of an undetermined amount of cash. The employee said a Hispanic male entered the store at 7:24 p.m. Thursday, pointed a handgun at him and demanded cash. The suspect is described as between 18 and 20 years old and 6 feet tall, with dark hair, wearing blue nylon pants and a blue shirt with yellow trim.
Plea on conduct charge
CANFIELD -- A St. Andrews Drive man who police say threatened to shoot his landlord has pleaded no contest to disorderly conduct. Wayne Kaminski, 27, entered the plea in Mahoning County Court here Wednesday. Judge Scott Hunter ordered Kaminski to pay $100 in fines and court costs and to stay away from the landlord and the landlord's family. Kaminski also was allowed to keep his shotgun, which had been confiscated by county sheriff's deputies. The charge was reduced from aggravated menacing.
Deputies found the gun next to Kaminski's door when they arrived at his apartment at 8:40 a.m. March 3. Earlier, the landlord had knocked on Kaminski's door and asked to check his thermostat. The landlord said Kaminski then threatened to shoot him.
Sexual imposition case
STRUTHERS -- Johnny M. King Jr., 38, of Minerva has been sentenced to 180 days in jail, with 120 days suspended, and one year of probation after pleading no contest to a charge of sexual imposition. He also was fined $250 plus court costs. King was found guilty May 24 in municipal court and was given credit for seven days already spent behind bars. He was picked up on a warrant May 20 in the rape of a woman in a parking lot behind St. Nicholas Church in 1999.
Pregnant woman charged
AUSTINTOWN -- A Niles woman who said she was six months pregnant was treated at St. Elizabeth Health Center early this morning after a foot chase with police. The woman, 44, of Warren Avenue, is charged with criminal trespassing and is slated to appear in county court here June 17.
Police said they spotted the woman walking through the truck parking lot of the Rebel Lounge on Seventy-Six Drive around 12:45 a.m. She had been warned to stay away from the business in the past. When police called to the woman using her first name, she ran.
Police chased the woman through the parking lot, ordering her to stop. Eventually, police caught up with her near the entrance of the lounge. She was placed on the ground and handcuffed.
The woman told police she was six months pregnant and experiencing abdominal pains.
Drug raid at home
STRUTHERS -- A Poland Avenue woman told police she thought it was legal to grow marijuana for personal use.
Officers from the Struthers Police Department, the Mahoning Valley Drug Task Force and the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification recovered 48 marijuana plants, lighting equipment and a greenhouse-type structure from the home Wednesday evening.
Officers started the investigation after area residents reported suspicious activities at the home.
Police are having the plants weighed and inspected before determining what charges to file against the woman.
Domestic violence arrest
STRUTHERS -- Police said they arrested a 76-year-old man on a domestic violence charge after he threatened his wife with a gun Thursday morning.
The Maplewood Avenue man is being held in city jail without bond, pending an initial court appearance today.
Reports say the man threatened his wife with a gun, telling her she would not wake up the next morning. After the man was processed at the jail, officers returned to the home and found the .22-caliber pistol on a shelf in the garage. The gun is being held as evidence.
Dogs left at house
STRUTHERS -- A humane officer is trying to locate a family that reportedly moved out of a Wilson Street home, leaving dogs behind.
Neighbors reported to police that the family left three or four days ago, leaving three Rottweiler dogs in an outside pen without food or water.
Humane agent Dave Nelson posted notices on the home for the family to contact authorities. If the animals are not claimed today, humane officers will take the dogs into custody.
Bomb investigation
POLAND -- Village police have asked the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms to help in the investigation into pipe bombs left in neighborhood yards. Police Chief R.D. Batty said the bombs found in May were sent to the Ohio Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Identification for fingerprints, but they are still awaiting results. Police continue to follow several leads and ask anyone with information to come forward.
