Columbiana Co. serves indictments

EAST PALESTINE -- Among those secretly indicted by a Columbiana County grand jury were the following served with indictments Thursday:
U Jeffrey Baker, 35, of Bacon Avenue, East Palestine; rape and gross sexual imposition involving a girl younger than 13.
Deputy sheriffs said the rape charge is related to sexual contact with the girl July 7, 2001, and the gross sexual imposition charge occurred in 1998, when the girl was 8.
U Shawn Birkhimer, 25, of North Market Street, Lisbon, two counts of possession of drugs and one count of illegal conveyance of drugs onto the grounds of a detention facility.
Deputies said Birkhimer had crack cocaine in his possessionMarch 2 and March 28 and was in possession of marijuana and crack cocaine March 28 while on the Columbiana County Jail property.
