Road to close for race
AUSTINTOWN -- Norquest Boulevard from state Route 46 to the entrance of Immaculate Heart of Mary Church will be closed starting at 7 p.m. Thursday for the church festival's 5K run. The road will reopen about 45 minutes later.
Runners may register for the race beginning at 5 p.m. in front of the school. Entrance fee is $10 in advance, or $12 the day of the race.

Cars hit with eggs
YOUNGSTOWN -- Two drivers, one on South Hazelwood Avenue and one on Overlook Avenue, told police their cars were egged Tuesday by Chaney High School students.
Police have the suspects' names. Three girls threw eggs from a car on South Hazelwood, near the high school, and two boys threw eggs from a car on Overlook, police said.
Spot paving planned
HOWLAND -- Ohio Department of Transportation crews will be spot paving state Route 82 at the westbound ramp from state Route 11 northbound beginning at 7 p.m. today.
Traffic will be maintained during the work, scheduled to end at 6 a.m. Thursday.
Woman hurt in break-in
HUBBARD -- An elderly Hubbard Township woman is hospitalized after a break-in at her home early today. Detective Mike Begeot said the woman in her 90s was being treated this morning in St. Elizabeth Health Center after being struck by the burglar. He said the injuries are not life-threatening.
Begeot said the burglar kicked in the front door of her home in the 3000 block of Franklin Avenue between 2:30 and 3 a.m. She was struck by the burglar after she was awakened while he was rummaging through her bedroom.
It doesn't appear that anything was taken, the detective added.
Facing assault charge
YOUNGSTOWN -- A basketball hurled at an Eagle Heights Academy teacher seated at his desk bent the man's glasses Tuesday and resulted in the arrest of a 15-year-old student. The East Hilton Avenue boy had been told to hand over the basketball, which he was bouncing in the classroom, police said.
The boy was taken by police from the Market Street school to the juvenile justice center, charged with assault.
Restraining order
CAMPBELL -- A restraining order was issued against John E. Santoro, 32, of 141 Courtland Avenue during his arraignment in municipal court Tuesday morning.
Santoro is charged with domestic violence involving his 21-year-old live-in girlfriend. The woman was treated after being taken to the hospital by ambulance.
Woman sentenced
CAMPBELL -- Faye B. Hildreth, 51, of 223 Mumford Road, Youngstown, was sentenced to 30 days in jail, which was suspended, six months' probation and 20 hours of community service after pleading guilty to a misdemeanor assault charge in municipal court Tuesday.
Hildreth also was fined $50 plus court costs and ordered to send a written apology to the VFW Post 6488, 2065 Coitsville-Hubbard Road, Coitsville, where she reportedly pushed, punched and tried to run over a 72-year-old Oak Street woman after an argument March 29.
Hildreth was originally charged with assault and attempted felonious assault.
Playground program
YOUNGSTOWN -- Youths can sign up for the city's summer playground program through Thursday. The free program starts Monday at 11 city parks and playgrounds that will be open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.: Wick, Lynn, Hillman, Lincoln, Crandall, Schenley, Sheridan, Homestead, John White, Fosterville and Wick-Saranac. The program ends Aug. 2.
Breakfasts and lunches are free, youths can play a number of sports, and there will be field trips to Pittsburgh Pirates and Cleveland Rockers games, the Mill Creek Nature Center and Mahoning County Experimental Farm.
