Campbell girl scares e-mail friend in hoax

CAMPBELL -- A concerned e-mail pal sent police to the home of a 15-year-old city girl who claimed she had been raped by her father and was so despondent over the attack that she had swallowed enough prescription drugs to kill herself.
When police arrived at the Hyatt Avenue home of the girl around midnight Monday, they found her hiding in the basement unhurt.
After evaluating the girl, paramedics determined that she was not injured, did not appear to have ingested any medication, and did not need to go to the hospital.
Made it up
Police reports state that the girl acknowledged telling a New York woman via the Internet that she'd been raped by her father and that she had tried to overdose on prescription medication but that the stories were fabricated.
The girl told police that she had fabricated other stories too. Since she began corresponding with the woman a few months ago, the girl said she has claimed to have been raped in the past, to need a kidney transplant, and to be suicidal.
The girl's mother declined paramedics' offer to take the girl for psychological evaluation.
