CANFIELD Troopers write 156 tickets during Super Nats weekend

The patrol also made four DUI arrests and handled five car accidents.
CANFIELD -- Troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol's Canfield post issued 156 citations to motorists in Boardman during the Hot Rod Super Nationals.
A highway patrol dispatcher said 56 of the citations were for seat-belt violations. A statewide drive to encourage motorists to wear seat belts took place last week.
The dispatcher also said state troopers made four arrests for driving under the influence and responded to five auto accidents on state Route 224. The Super Nationals ended Sunday at the Canfield Fairgrounds.
Cruising 224
Many motorists left the event around 10 p.m. each night to cruise U.S. Route 224 in Boardman. Maj. Michael Budd of the Mahoning County Sheriff's Department said that in the past, the cruising resulted in several accidents and reports of squealing tires.
This year, the sheriff's department prohibited left turns along much of Route 224 and set up a crosswalk at West Boulevard to try to prevent accidents, Budd said. He noted that the department did not respond to any accidents this year.
Deputy sheriffs issued four citations over the weekend for open container violations. Boardman and Canfield police will have information about the number of citations they issued later today.
The popular event attracted 51,353 visitors and brought in millions of dollars to the Mahoning Valley.
