Wreck injures police chief and his wife
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield Police Chief Matt Mohn was in critical condition in St. Elizabeth Health Center this morning with head trauma and an injury to his left knee.
Mohn, 42, and his wife, Tara, 32, were injured in a traffic accident at 10 p.m. Saturday in Boardman Township. Mrs. Mohn was treated at the medical center.
The chief was driving a motorcycle with his wife behind him as a passenger going west on Western Reserve Road, west of state Route 7, according to the Canfield Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol. Neither was wearing a helmet. Robin L. Richards, 23, of Diamond, Ohio, was driving a car behind them.
The patrol said the chief slowed for traffic but Richards failed to stop and struck the motorcycle.
No charges have been filed.
The accident remains under investigation.
The township trustees will have an emergency meeting at 6 tonight in the township building on South Range Road to discuss police personnel.
