SANDLOT BASETBALL Vickers sparks Rondinelli's past Livi Steel in Class B play
He had a two-run triple in a five-run sixth inning and pitched the 5-3 victory.
Rick Vickers hit a two-run triple to cap a five-run rally in the sixth inning, as Rondinelli Tuxedo defeated Livi Steel 5-3 in a Class B League game Sunday at Cene Park.
Vickers was also the winning pitcher, throwing a complete game. He allowed five hits and struck out five.
Dean Palumbaro doubled twice for Rondinelli, while Mike DeNiro and Gabe McKee had one each.
Sean Lucas had a two-run inside the park home run Livi Steel. Shawn Petrarca tripled and Phil Butch hit a double.
Youngstown Propane 5, Youngstown Express 1: Youngstown Propane remained the only unbeaten team in the league, behind Anthony Musolino, who went 3-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs. Ed Bartolec (3-0) pitched a complete game, allowing no earned runs and striking out six.
Paul Suhar added a double for Propane.
Sean Taylor had two hits for Youngstown Express and Brian Sterling struck out eight.
Astro Falcons 5, Roth Brothers 4: Chad Baker hit a bases-loaded double, driving in the tying and winning runs, in the bottom of the seventh. Baker also hit a single.
Adam Coco and Sean Clayton also hit doubles for Astro. Clayton's hit drove in two runs in the bottom of the sixth. David Yost pitched the final two innings in relief, fanning four, to earn the win.
Kyle Irish had three singles and two RBIs for Roth, while Joe McCracken and Bob Dubovec hit doubles.
Lazart 3, Becdir 2: Robert Stull worked out of a bases-loaded jam in the seventh inning, and Justin Kurlichick's two-run triple in the bottom of the sixth helped Lazart to the win.
Stull (1-1) struck out 13 and walked three in a complete-game effort. Jason Nolet had a double for Lazart.
Luke Srock tripled and Rick Murray doubled twice for Becdir, which left 10 runners on base. Jay Yorty took the loss despite pitching a complete game, allowing five hits and striking out eight.
Line Drive Academy 6, Riordan Sports 3: Mike Hanck's two-run triple in the top of the seventh was the big hit in a four-run rally for Line Drive. Hanck also doubled, while Matt Repec doubled and singled. Dan Ford also hit a double.
Mike DeCola homered for Riordan's, while Brian Smith hit a double. Losing pitcher Greg Mentrek had 10 strikeouts.
Class AA: Paul Kello struck out seven while throwing a six-hitter for Jolly Joe's which managed just one hit, a sixth-inning single by Caleb Goist, to defeat Pal Joey's/New Affair 4-2.
PJ/NA starter and losing pitcher Gary Kohler had a no-hitter over four innings, the Vince Franceschelli and Jason Leskowski finished off the game by pitching an inning apiece.
Roth Bros. 9, DiCioccio's 5: Tim Kutchel struck out five during a four-hitter with help from a four-run fifth inning by Roth Brothers.
Sean Wardle tripled for the winners.
Vinny D'Angelo had a home run and three RBIs while Eric Jones also homered for DiCioccio's.
BB Rooners: AKRON -- BB Rooners defeated Euclid 10-0 and 11-3 in Greater Akron Baseball Federation games.
Jeremy Hedegore had five hits on the day, while Sam Mann, Marty Heben and Nolan Reimold had two each. Jeff Winning and Adam Daugherty were the winning pitchers for Rooners (7-0).
