FBI probes bank video
COLUMBIANA -- The FBI of Youngstown is studying surveillance video of the National City Bank state Route 164 branch here, Columbiana Police Chief John Krawchyk said.
A male robber took an undisclosed amount of cash from the bank Friday afternoon. Police said the robber fled on state Route 46 in a small blue-green car with Pennsylvania registration.
Crash kills Pa. man
NEW CASTLE, Pa. -- Pennsylvania State Police are investigating a crash that left a Shenango Township man dead. Police said Matthew Jarrett, 24, of R.D. 4, New Castle, was traveling south on Pa. Route 288 when his 2000 Ford Pickup Truck crossed the center line and crashed into a tree at 10:32 a.m. Saturday.
Acting Coroner Russell S. Noga pronounced him dead at 11:15 a.m. The Shenango Township Fire Department helped removed Jarrett from the truck.
Trustees to meet
NEW SPRINGFIELD -- Springfield Township trustees will have an emergency meeting at 6 tonight in the township building on South Range Road. Trustees will discuss a personnel matter in the police department.
Collision injures 3
HARLANSBURG, Pa. -- A head-on collision on Pa. Route 19 left three people injured. Pennsylvania State Police said a northbound sedan crossed the center line and crashed into a pickup truck at 3 a.m. Sunday.
Truck driver Mark Foran of Butler was treated at St. Francis Hospital. A passenger in Foran's truck and the other driver were flown to UPMC Pittsburgh. Police were not releasing their names this morning, and their conditions were not available. Both vehicles were demolished, police said.
Volunteers for cleanup
EAST LIVERPOOL -- Volunteers are needed June 15 to help clean up the entire length of the Ohio River and its tributaries in the 14th annual Ohio River Sweep.
The sweep covers 3,000 miles of shoreline from Pittsburgh to Cairo, Ill. Last year, more than 20,000 participants helped pick up trash and debris from the river banks and waterways.
People interested in volunteering can call (800) 359-3977 for site locations and county coordinators in their area.
Library receives grant
EAST LIVERPOOL -- SBC Ameritech donated $50,000 to the Carnegie Public Library here to support its computer education program.
The library received $37,500 of the grant Saturday in a ceremony at the new computer center's grand opening. The remainder of the funding will be released next year.
The grant is one of 23 awards totaling $950,000 issued statewide by SBC Ameritech to the Ohio Community Computing Network. OCCN is a private, nonprofit group dedicated to developing new community technology centers or expanding programs at technology centers.
Man flees from police
YOUNGSTOWN -- A man ran from police carrying a handgun after being stopped for playing loud music in his car on Erie Street at Pasadena Avenue, police reports show.
The man, 29, of West Ravenwood Avenue, was asked by officers to step out of his car shortly after 12:30 a.m. Saturday. He got out, pushed an officer and ran, pulling the handgun. Police said they found criminal tools in the car's trunk, including flex-cuffs, a ski mask, a screwdriver, duct tape, rubber gloves and two-way radios.
